Orion Molecular Cloud
This is a 3.5-hour exposure of the region of the sky known as the Orion Molecular Cloud. I used a specially modified camera that is sensitive to light emitted by ionized hydrogen (the red in the image). The three belt stars of Orion are left of center in a diagonal line and the sword of Orion is at a ninety-degree angle going towards the center. The Great Orion Nebula, the Running Man Nebula, the Horsehead Nebula and the Flame Nebula are all here. The red loop surrounding the area is called Barnard's Loop after its discoverer. There are lots of other interesting things to look at here, including thousands of stars, each with a color of its own.
