Canyon Sunrise Panorama
This panoramic image spans almost 360 degrees and was shot near Dragon Point just as the sun was rising in the east. The center of the picture is due west where the warm morning light is just falling on the head of the dragon, the distinctive pegmatite intrusion that gives the overlook its name. Such intrusions are spread throughout the enormous rock structure known as Painted Wall, Colorado's highest cliff at 2,250 feet. The Gunnison River flowing through the bottom of the canyon faithfully reflects the clear blue sky above.
