Cimarron Sentinal
Courthouse and Chimney Rock are warmly illuminated by the setting sun in this panoramic image of an oak-covered hillside near Owl Creek Pass in the Cimarron Mountains of southwestern Colorado. Stands of yellow aspen also are seen throughout the image. Part of the San Juan Mountains, including Mt. Sneffels, is visible on the horizon to the right. The timing of the panoramic process must be just right so that both the landscape and clouds are illuminated with intense warm light just before the sun sets. Too soon and the sky will not be colorful. Too late and the landscape will be in shadow and much less vibrant. Here, I was fortunate enough to make the exposures during precisely the right few seconds and capture the scene at its best.
