San Juan Sunset with Orange Cloud
Moments after sunset, the clouds above the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado are rendered in vivid orange, a very rare event that lasted only a few minutes. Fall color is fully displayed by the vast aspen grove at the base of the mountains and the multicolored scrub oak in the foreground. This early autumn scene is typical of this region and attracts visitors from all over the country. New snow on the peaks adds contrast and definition to the rugged mountains.
