Red Mountain Reflection with Silhouette
Just after sunrise the warm light of early morning falls on Red Mountain No. 1 in the San Juan range. The trees near the shoreline of an alpine pond are dramatically outlined as silhouettes against the glowing red background. An intense blue sky contrasts and compliments the red. The dead calm conditions allow for a perfect reflection of the entire scene. The grass growing in the pond at the lower right side of the image gives away the secret as to which is reality and which is reflection, an important element of the composition. This region is called Gray Copper Gulch and is a little-known but incredibly beautiful spot high in the mountains of southwestern Colorado.
